  PLANT A TREE

       One of many trees planted in my little patch of land is one which holds special meaning because it was given to me during Pastor  Appreciation Day. I’m not sure how you were aware of my love for trees, but it is one of the best gifts the church could have given.  It has been planted in view of our kitchen window.
       Trees are an often mentioned subject in our    Scriptures.  First of those references occurs early in Genesis when one of the trees planted in the Garden of Eden provided the temptation which illustrated how God’s creation became disobedient to the command not to eat the fruit produced by the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
       The Old Testament book of Psalms uses a tree to illustrate those who are obedient to God’s law.
“Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked.  Or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers; but their delight is in the law of the Lord.  And on His law they meditate day and night.  They are like trees planted by streams of water which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither.  In all they do, they prosper.”  Psalms 1:1-3 This Biblical wisdom will stay with me as the gift given me in appreciation provides a reminder of the command to be obedient to God’s law.
       In conclusion the following poem gives reason to celebrate love as we share in our planting.

Plant A Tree
He who plants a tree, He plants love.
Tents of coolness spreading out above wayfarers
he may not live to see.
Gifts that grow are best;
Hands that bless are best;
Plant.  Life does the rest!
Heaven and earth help him who plants a tree,
And his work its own reward shall be.
