Attending a professional baseball game is not an everyday experience for me so with wide eyes I watched the activities. During batting practice, there was a bird in center field seemingly unafraid of the outfielder. Then the reason for the tame nature of the bird became clear as seed was thrown on the ground from the pockets of the baseball players. Was this for real?
When the game finally began, the home team batter hit a foul ball. While straining to catch it, the fielder lost balance and fell over the fence. Unable to find his balance, one of the opposing players reached around his waist and pulled him back on his feet. Is this not aiding the enemy? Later in the game, there was a change in the weather, and a few drops of rain began to fall. The shower only lasted a few minutes, but seated in front of me was a young lady who jumped out of her seat and yelled, “Look, there is a rainbow.”
Baseball, home runs, double plays, strike outs, that’s what you expect; but if you watch and listen carefully, there is a lot that goes on there which reaches far beyond the baseball field. As one who watches for signs related to the Kingdom of God, there they were. Let me explain.
“Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” Matthew 6:26 “Do not rejoice when your enemies fall, and do not let your heart be glad when they stumble.” Proverbs 24:17 “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations.” Genesis 9:12
How is that for watching a baseball game?
